Did you know that the Toronto Knitter’s Frolic is coming up in a couple of weeks? I’ll be there, Sarah’s coming with me, and if you look closely you might spot another Joey’s House member among the vendors.
That’s right Monte is going to be there too! I thought I should tell you, since he’s pretty quiet, and easily missed in a crowd. He’ll be hanging out at the Indigodragonfly booth, where you’ll be able to purchase Monte kits! Kim’s done up some wicked colours that you can have lots of fun playing with. You’ll be able to get a kit with a set of 3 mini skeins which will make one Monte, or a kit with 9 different colours, which will make up to 4 Montes! Kim sent me a 9 colour kit to play with, so last week was Monte knitting week here. I took a bunch of pics over the course of the week, the colours we so fun. I did each Monte a bit differently to give you all some ideas of the possibilities. Also, I am not one to want to knit precisely the same thing 4 times, since I am a fickle knitter and always want the next new shiny project. Anyways, have a look at the pics, but don’t drool on your keyboard – the colours are awesome!
This is the yarn I received. We won’t get into how long I messed around with colour combos.
Combo #1, with small stripes.
Combo #2. I love doing random stripes.
Combo #3. Even stripes, like the original Monte’s. Loving the grey and orange.
Combo #4 – leftovers! Fun!
It’s assembly day! Here are all the flat pieces laid out.
And all stuffed!
Eye time! To decide on eye placement I partially stuff the body, to get a better idea of how the finished product will look. Then I stick the eyes in and fuss with them until they are just right before attaching the backs. I think eye placement is the most common problem for toy makers. You can have perfect knitting, but if you mess up the eyes that’s all anyone notices.
Sewing on legs.
Almost done! All assembled, but no mouths.
Finished! I embroidered the mouths on using leftover yarn bits.
For now the kits will only be available at the Frolic, but Kim assures me that you’ll be able to order them online afterwards. I’ll let you know when that happens, just in case you’re not Frolic bound.
