Have you seen the Sock Yarn Blankets? You know, the ones made up of little teeny squares of leftover sock yarn? Popularized the the lovely Shelly Kang? I must admit the first time I saw Shelly’s I thought “Wow!! That’s really cool. But how crazy do you have to be to want to knit a Queen size blanket? Out of SOCK YARN?”
Yeah. About this crazy.
I read the threads on Ravelry saying “OOh those little squares are so much fun to make!!” and thought “Really? A whole blanket’s worth of fun? REALLY??”
Really. So far at least – you know how my attention wanders. That’s ok though, I know this is going to take a long time – years, likely. I have a lovely stash of leftover sock yarn that has been the inspiration for all of this. And it fits in with the vague idea I had in January about knitting mostly from the stash, since I have so much stuff I like and haven’t knit. Also – y’know what’s fun? Seeing how fast you can whip one of these little suckers out. And then playing with them to see how the colours look together. (Yes, I can hear you snickering and the thoughts of “geek!” from here)
Like that red one? It’s nice eh? Hmmm, I’ve got some bright orange/green stuff somewhere too, must go find that…
But before I go, if you have any sock yarn leftovers sitting around? Send ’em over (before you get sucked in too!) I’ll give them a good home, I promise!
