New socks, looky!
Ooh, bright, hurts the, eyes, ow!
Hehehe. I love bright socks.
This yarn was a mixed sample batch I bought from Sharingover on Etsy. As soon as I saw the mini-skeins of yarn she had I knew what I was doing with them – crazy loud socks!
I didn’t want a defined line between each of the colours though, so I alternated yarns where I was joining in the new colour, to blend it in. (Hence, Blender Socks). Here are two of the blend sequences I used, if you are interested:
Sequence 1
K 2 rounds new colour, 1 round old colour, 1 round new colour, 2 rounds old colour, 3 rounds new colour, 1 round old colour. Contnue knitting with new colour.
Sequence 2
Knit 1 round new colour, 1 round old colour, 2 rounds new colour, 1 round old colour. Contnue knitting with new colour.
The nice thing about these socks is you can use any sock pattern that you like, and just do the blends when yo run out of one colour, or the mood strikes. It is also a great way to use up scrap yarn. Don’t look at me like that, you do too have some.
Here’s a close up of a blended section. Can you see the blend?
Me neither, and I knit them.
Tomorrow I am going to be embarking on a different kind of fun – peppers!
Or rather, pickled peppers! I got these at the farmer’s market this morning. I am gong to try pickling them tomorrow. I have never pickled anything before, so this is experiment time for me. If it works there will be pickled hot pepper Christmas presents this year! And if not… well, we just won’t worry about that for now will we?
Those socks are just ten different kinds of awesome! How on earth did you get ahold of mini-skeins???
just want to say – LOVE those socks!!!
What absolutely fabulous socks! I realize any sock pattern will do, but did you knit toe up or top down? I am definitly going to try a pair- they are too cute! Great job!
Your socks are great. Look, what I have done.

I made some socks using your idea…loved the pattern and the result. I think these are my all time favorite socks!
Thanks for designing them!
Wad’ja do with all the ends?
Fed them to the birds 😉
love the socks!!!
please post on the pickling and how you did it!!!!!!
Luv Loud Bright Sox Colors! Will start a pair now, thanks for sharing!
Hi I’ve put your blender socks recipe a while ago in my fave list in Ravelry. I’m thinking of starting a pair soon and am curious about your colourchange. Did you make jogless stripes and waht about the yanr, did you carry it along while knitting or was it a matter of cut and weaving in afterwards???

I love this idea. I can’t wait to make a pair. Thanks for sharing them.

Love your socks. To start with, I know you used scraps, but where did the scraps come from? The combination of colors is just beautiful. Please share what yarn did you buy to start with? Such happy and lively colors!!! I must start somewhere and I want some of that yarn.
Warm regards,
May in Atlanta
Hi May!
Glad you like the socks. Unfortunately they have faded very badly over time. I bought the yarn from an independent dyer on Etsy and I don’t know if she didn’t set the dyes properly or what the issue is, but I am not happy with it. I won’t publicly out her on my blog, but I also don’t want to send any business her way. There are lots of wonderful dyers out there, or you can just use whatever scraps you have left over from other projects. No special yarn required!
Get out the Kool-Aid.
How did you do the joins?
Hi Kristy,
I just started with the new yarn and wove in the ends at the end. Nothing fancy!
Wow, really?! Looks much tidier then that!
I don’t find this method untidy, just annoying at the end 🙂
Wow, awesome. So did you actually cut and start with the new yarn during EVERY changeover, including the ones where it’s just one round of old color then one round of new? Thanks for sharing this!
No, of course not! All those ends! Yikes! I carried both colours up the inside of the sock until the transition was finished, then cut the colour that I wasn’t using any more. Still a lot of ends, but they are easily managed during a good movie.
Oh, great! Thank you so much for your quick reply! I actually am able to picture that in my head now and it makes total sense 🙂 I’m definitely going to give these blender socks a try very soon.
♥ marvelous ♥
I also bought mini skeins from the same dyer on Etsy. After reading about the colors fading, I think I’ll try to set them with white vinegar and salt. Hopefully, that will keep the colors brighter longer. And, I’m wondering if a Russian join would work when changing colors – nothing to weave in, and no huge lumps at each color change….hmmmmm….
[…] Sebastian of Joey’s House knew that already. She has a Blender Socks recipe that explains how to break up those transitions […]
Each sequence ends with “Contnue knitting with new color.” Do I then just repeat the sequence from the beginning with ” K 2 rounds new color.”
You can repeat the blend sequence if you want to, but really I meant that you are now done with your old colour and can just keep knitting using only the new one – no more striping!
Hi Great idea, thanks. Which of the two sequences did you use on the photo example? Not sure which to use. Ta
Hi! I used both, alternating them down the sock.
Thanks. That helps
