I trust everyone survived the holidays, including any snow, or other fun weather you might have had?
We did, but only after 1 snowstorm, 3 illnesses, 1 roof leaking 2 times, in addition to the normal insanity of it all.
It is much quieter this week, so I am indulging in some fun that I don’t always have time for. Look at this, tell me what you see:
I see a fun afternoon of playing with colour, that’s what I see! I love to dye yarn, but don’t always have time. I also like to try new techniques, so today: kettle dyeing. I have always hand painted with my acid dyes up until now, but have seen some stunning kettle dyed yarn on Ravelry, yarn that made me want to lock myself in the basement giggling maniacally as I splashed colours around. Whee, off to the basement we go! Into the crock pot with yarn, water, vinegar and dye:
There is pink, purple, blue and a little red in there.
I must admit that I am kind of skeptical of this method. To me, all those colours should just blend together and you should end up with a semi-solid yarn, at best. However, after about an hour it looks like this:
Blended at the edges, but still distinct colour spots. Yay, it worked! It’s cooling now, so it seems that today’s episode is
