Where did June go?

Wow, it’s been a whole month since that last post!  Not sure what happened to June, but I have been busy.  I made a dress for Punky.  And  a scarf for her too.  A new monster prototype.  And started a new pair of socks.  I have pictures of none of these.  Lucky for you I also made a teeny little Penguin for my frioend Rose’s birthday, and he is so cute that you are not going to care one fibre about any of that other stuff.  Ready?

Told ya.

The details:

Yarn – the red is Apple Laine’s Apple Pie sock yarn in the colour MacIntosh.  The white is Kroy Socks, Natural, and the yellow is Wollmeise, colour unknown.

The best part is that the pattern is free, available here.

Now, go forth and make penguins!

Juicy

It seems that we have another new resident.

Either they are breeding, or just gearing up for a really good party.  I’m not sure which.

As you may be able to tell from the look of him, this one is a bit more trouble than the first batch.  Earlier this afternoon he brought me a snack.

Isn’t that nice?  But while I was distracted by it check him out!

Ummm, dude?  That’s my drink!

As a side note – if you like Juicy Minion’s juicy orange colour you can check out Coulrophobia, purveyors of very colourful yarns, just like Juicy’s!

Wouldn’t you like to have your own little hoard to make you sandwiches in the morning?  Let me help you with that!  The pattern is ready to go, and now available on Ravelry!

The details:

These minions are small – only about 7″ from hat tip to toe tip!  They knit up fast so you can have a whole horde of them in no time!  They’re just the size to stuff in a stocking (if you can convince them to stay there) or hang on the tree for the coolest ornament in town.   And they are knit in the round so there is no seaming and only minimal assembly.

So, what are you still doing here!??  GO! Knit!  Be happy!

Yarn: use up those favourite sock yarn scraps, or create an army of matching Minions from one 50 g ball.  Each Minion requires about 10 g of yarn.

Needles: Knit in the round on 2.25mm dpns.

Skills: Knitting in the round, basic increases and decreases, i-cord.

Pattern includes 2 different head/body options (round or with ears) as well as 2 hats (toque and pointy elf hat) and pants.  The pattern is 7 pages of full colour fun, and will be emailed to you right away through Ravelry’s wicked delivery system.

What Happened Here?

A few days ago I found this little hat outside on my porch railing.

I didn’t know who it belonged to, but I brought it inside.  It seems this may have been a mistake.   That evening Joey and I kept hearing little scuffling noises and giggles.  We kept searching around but never found the source of the noises.  The next morning there were several things out of place in the kitchen.  We thought it must be the cats, and set everything back to right.

The following night there was more scuffling and even more giggling.  This is what we found in the morning.

Do you see it?  Peeking out of the cupboard?

Let me give you a close up.

No, it’s not a plant leaf.  Joey bravely went over and opened the cupboard.  Inside, we found this:

What the heck is that?   And in the rest of the cupboard?

A little closer?

What are they indeed! I don’t know yet, but apparently they had some sort of wicked party.

Maybe next time they will invite me.

Actually, he’s already here!

This particular Santa can also appear at your house!  Just swing by the Joey’s House Etsy shop for a pattern.

Of course, should you prefer, the pattern is also available through Ravelry.

I know it’s only September 11 – that means there are 104 knitting days until Christmas.

Hey that’s lots of time to knit a Santa!

What have you been doing?

Ok, so it’s been a while.  What can I tell you other than “March Break” and “Flu”.  That describes my last 3 weeks.  ‘Nuff said, yes?  On to brighter topics?  Like, knitting!

You’re figuring there must have been something going on during this silence, and you would be right!  Let’s see what’s on the needles shall we?

joey sock

Twisted Rib socks for Joey.

I cast on 65 sts and am working in 3×2 rib.  Every 6 rows I move everything over 1 stitch, which is producing the twist in the rib.  I can’t claim this as my own invention, as I’m sure many have done it before me.  I saw it not so long ago on Stephanie’s blog and thought it looked like a Joey kind of thing.  Meaning it was not too “bumpy”.  You have to be careful with “bumpy”, he doesn’t like bumpy.  “Bumpy” being defined here as “any texture Joey thinks looks weird.”  He likes ribs, and when I showed him this I was careful to say “Look, it’s nice and squishy!”  so he would not have any worries of “bumpy”.  So far he’s good with it.  Phew!

I am thinking of trying a short row heel when I get to that point, which is something I have only done once before.  If any one has any suggestions on short row heels I’d love to hear them!

The yarn is SWTC Tofutsies in colour number 789.  Joey picked it out himself when I was complaining about having a hard time finding boy yarn.  I have read reviews that it is splitty, but I have not had any trouble with it.  It has a bit of cotton in it too, so it’s coming up squishy-soft.  The only complaint I would have is that it is thinner than I would usually use.  I think if you were just doing plain stockinette it might seem too thin – we’ll see when I get to the sole.

WIP #2

mit

Mitered Mittens from Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Knitter’s Almanac.  I cast on 40 sts instead of the recommended 48, and I’m using the thumb described here.  I also just did 5 rows of garter st for the cuff rather than ribbing.  The yarn?  Mmm, yummy isn’t it?  Good ol’ Noro Kureyon in colour 180.  I love Noro, all the colours, the striping, it’s so fun.  I really want to get my hands on some of their new sock yarn!  (drool drool)

Next up: baby time!

blankie

One of my friend’s is expecting, so of course I am making her stuff!  Who can resist baby knitting?  Or crocheting in this case.  She asked for a brightly coloured blanket, so here it is!  The pattern is a freebie, located at The Diva Crochets blog if you are interested.  I haven’t changed a thing (for once hehe).  The yarn Paton’s Astra, a good basic acrylic that stands up well to washing.  Just what you need for a baby blankie!  This little dude isn’t due until July, so I have lots of time to finish this blanket.  Just as well, since it is not the most challenging thing, and I know I won’t stick with it.

Now, I know you are wondering what happened to the toys I said I was working on.  They are done, at least the knitting is done!  However the pattern writing is not done, but I am working on it.  I need to add photos and have it all proof read and then it will be ready for you.  Want a peek in the mean time?

Dude needs a name, don’tcha think?

Do your ears hang low?

Ok, here’s what I have so far:

schmoo

One bunny head/body.  No it’s not a pear.  Or a Shmoo.  I thought this would be the hard part.  As it turns out it’s the ears that are kicking my ass.  I have ripped out 3 different ears.  I am about to start on my 4th.  This time I think I’ve got it.  Stupid ears.
