Mother’s Day always causes a bit of drama Chez Joey. Sure, it’s a grat time to flex the ol’ craft muscle, and get Punky involved, but involved with what? Also, being a Mom myself, I don’t really want to take on a whole lot of extra work for a day that is supposed to be relaxing for me. Yeah, I can hear a whole lot of Mamas laughing out there about that. It doesn’t happen here either, but I try.
The big issue is ususally what to give/make. We don’t do huge gifts for Mother’s Day – or Father’s Day either. The commercials lately would have you believing that all the moms are getting big screen tvs and Blackberries this year, but I don’t believe it for a second. Does anyone really go that all out for Mom’s day? Really? I have a feeling that a lot of moms would rather that the rest of the family just packed up for the day and left her in bed than get an i-whatever. I could be wrong.
Anyways, we are having both Grandma and Oma over for the afternoon, followed by a lovely dinner (no, I’m not cooking. We’re ordering pizza.) Punky wanted to sew presents this year, so here’s what we came up with.
Yup, they’re potholders. Pretty much the polar opposite of anything fancy or techy. Punky sewed them with my help out of scraps that she chose. She arranged the strips the way she wanted them and decided who got what fabric. She has wrapped them in lovely orange tissue with tags she made herself. I think they’re pretty darned cute, and I would be happy to get this same thing from her. And for all of you who are thinking I’m playing the “Your granddaughter made it, so you have to like it” card I just have one thing to say: Jealous?
