Something amazing happened at our house this weekend!
Look!

Miss Punky asked if I could teach her to knit. It seems the toys are in need of more blankies. I cast on for her, and by the end of the first row she had it. She knows the motions. She can wrap the yarn about her fingers to control her tension. She gets a kick out of “popping” the old stitches off the needle. We even made up a little ditty for all of the steps. (My apologies to everyone who grew up with the classic knitting poem about the bunny. I don’t know how it goes.)
Put the needle in the hole
Then wrap the yarn from the top
Put your finger on that stitch!
Scoop and POP!

The stitches are loopy and uneven. There are a couple of mistakes. She doesn’t really get the concept of “tension” yet.
All in all a perfect first bit of knitting.
Excuse me. I think i need a tissue. *sniff!*

Such a story really makes me smile
I agree – perfect first stitches. I hope there will be lots of stitches in the future.
Well done, commendable.
Somehow i missed the point. Probably lost in translation
Anyway … nice blog to visit.
cheers, Sunrise.
Hi Sunrise,
The point is that I was teaching my 6 yo how to knit. These are her first stiches. For a kniting mom, just as important as baby’s first steps.
